Manage different mediums of reading
How do you decide what platform to read on? If you are confused like me then maybe this will help. As someone who enjoys reading quite a lot and on a number of platforms, it becomes tough to decide sometimes, whether to buy physical copies of all the books I want to read or buy it on my e-reader, OR just to listen to an audible version of the same. Some very rigid readers and a special category of book lovers might always urge you to go for physical copies and if you try to change their mind they will change yours right back (it’s happened with me). I consider myself an avid reader but somehow the platform has never mattered to me. I read easily and without complaints across any and all platforms, so long as I get to read the books I want. Let me elaborate how you can manage your reading across different mediums without it becoming a prejudice that only curbs your reading.
Paperbacks and Hardcovers- What I do is that I only buy physical copies- paperbacks or hardcovers- when I want to collect a particular author’s works or if it is a book that I would really want on my shelf. These go mostly for literary fiction and award winning titles or classics. Like I have the physical copies of my favorite books and some from my favorite authors but the ones that I use for casual reading I don’t bother buying physical copies of.
E-books- This is where my e-reader comes in. I love reading on my Kindle and there are so many titles that you could get for free on your Kindle or you can just get an annual unlimited subscription for a lot of free titles, new and old. In my Kindle I mostly keep light-reads, some travel and leisure books, crimes or pacey thrillers, or the odd young adult titles. Basically the titles that I would enjoy reading but would also be fine if I don’t get to read them at all.
Audiobooks- This is a very interesting platform and I think a lot many people are gravitating towards it these days. With so little spare time at hand, audiobooks can be really convenient. I put on non-fiction titles in the background while I do other work, or poetry and some classics before bed. With audiobooks, I can easily multitask without setting aside a specific amount of time for reading. If I’m cleaning I can put it on in the background, or while taking a relaxing bath, a good book of poems is the way to go!
