I don’t know about you but I’m kind of tired of seeing and reading bad things all around. What am I even saying? Of course all of us feel the same way. So in this all around doom and gloom time I’m here to suggest some light-hearted, happy(ish?) books that I have recently read and really enjoyed. Because A) They did not deal with a lot of heavy matters, and B) They offered a much needed respite from the depressing environment we are forced to be in at the moment. I know we all are going through a lot and saying the same things to each other every day just makes us all feel numb with uncertainty. It’s important to stay sane in these trying times and I do that by staying away from my mobile phone as much as I possibly can. Because being on the phone automatically will mean being on social media, which is the last place we should be on right now. So, I have turned to books. But let’s face it, books have always been our savior one way or another so it’s not really surprising that at the end of the day, I have turned to books. So, without further ado, here is my little list.

This is Going to Hurt by Adam Kay- This is the first book which I read last year and I have re-read it multiple times now. The writer is a former doctor and this book is a compilation of his diary entries he kept while in service. Although this is not all funny, but more darkly humorous if you’re into that kind of humor. It’s sometimes laugh-out-loud funny and other times really sad. But it’s an important read right now when our healthcare workers are literal heroes, like they always are to be honest. So I think it’s both, an important read as well as a funny one.

Less by Andrew Sean Greer- Before I say anything about this book I am so happy to say that Andrew Sean Greer is publishing a sequel to this brilliant Pulitzer-winning novel and it’s coming very soon! I can’t sing enough praises about Less, I love this book with my whole heart. Please read this lovely gem of a novel.

A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle- If you love food, French rural living, and laugh-out-loud comedy then you are going to love this one. It’s a classic and for good reason. Read this one for some much needed warmth and laughter and good feels all around.

It Came From the Sky by Chelsea Sedoti- This one is a hilarious read about a science experiment gone wrong in a Pensylvannian town and how it was blamed on aliens. Best book to read right now. I couldn’t stop laughing by the end of it. It’s so so good!
